Filmstill, ‘Was es bedeutet eine Verwaltungsakte zu sein/What It is Like to Be an Administrative Act’, Full HD, 1 Channel Video, 16:9, 20’, 2017, von/by Christina Maria Pfeifer. Courtesy of the artist and Galerie Karin Wimmer contemporary art

In her birthplace, seeking out the history of her grandfather, the artist came across the administrative documents of the Reichspogromnacht in 1938. In a haunting film portrayal of this file, the camera acts like an independent agent and puts its own criteria and interests over human preferences of perception. As an object, the administrative documents apparently develop a truly charismatic pull, which the essay relates to. The film is part of the artist‘s exhibition “How to Explain the 9th of November to an Extraterrestrial”, which will also run during KINO DER KUNST.
