The video artist Johannes Evers (born in 1979 in Munich) examines the art-historical gaze by re-staging well-known works of art and transferring them into the medium of video. In “Pietà” (2009) he and his mother are imitating the Pietà by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1500). The actors take turns in the representation of Jesus and Mary and seem to rehearse for the final image that emerges for just a few seconds in the end. Playfully, with few props and rather casual than driven to perfection, Evers expands the view of this icon of art history.
